Shana thinks we’re dealing with something called a Dybbuk. Dybbuks can be removed with an exorcism, and because this can’t stop getting weirder, we’re heading out to meet her for just that. An exorcism. An honest-to-God exorcism.

I’m bringing a poncho in case there’s pea-soup vomit showers.

Easily top five most fucked up things I’ve ever experienced.

Shana wasn’t the most confident in her abilities to do the exorcism; she said a true master of the ‘kabbalah’ should’ve been the one, but because she’s the best we got, we went with her. Go team.

Also, Mr. Journal, I’m not sure what kabbalah is, but from what I’ve gleaned it’s the equivalent of Jew Wizards. Do with that what you will.

She also said we needed to form a “Minyan,” of ten dudes who could all read Hebrew, who would read a passage from the bible to help usher the monster out of Rachel. I guess part of their purpose was to assure the monster that they would be safe to leave, and free to go back to fucking wherever demons go when they’re not doing demon shit.

Anyway, a minyan is supposed to be all Jewish guys speaking Hebrew, but she was only able to muster five willing from her people. She asked if we could make up the other five, even though none of us speak Hebrew. She thought us reading in English could be enough. I countered with not needing ten, but nine.

For our universe, nine is the better number.

Kevin, Hal, Joel and Fagan offered to read, and I offered to stand there in the event shit went down. Then, we realized that Hal had been the only one who could injure Bell End, so I switched with him.

After meeting her at the drawbridge, she invited us into their inner sanctum.

I wish I could say it was amazing like Neverland, but it wasn’t. They’d built simple platforms over the tarmac of the bridge, then slapped good enough houses on top of those. Elevated gardens were everywhere, and I saw more than one “well” where they could lower buckets to get water from the river. She brought us to a simple room near the side of the bridge we were on, and we set up in there.

Much of the religious accoutrement we saw at the synagogue was there, covering the few shelves, and table surfaces. Small lanterns (electric) lit the space, and overall, it felt kinda reverent, but also… rushed.

At the center of the room they had placed a twin sized bed with a simple metal head and footboard. Four sets of handcuffs were already attached where you’d expect them to be.

“If I knew exorcisms were like this, I’d be doing a lot more of them,” Rachel joked. “I think I’ve already had a few. Sometimes fewer men than this.” That got a laugh out of everyone but Shana, but even she smiled.

“Have any of you heard the word, ‘Dybbuk?’ It is an old word that describes an evil spirit that has possessed the body of a person.
